HBOT – Using Pure Oxygen to Speed and Enhance the Body’s Natural Ability to Heal
What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (“HBOT”) is an FDA approved medical treatment that uses pure oxygen to speed and enhance the body’s natural ability to heal. While hyperbaric medicine was originally only used as emergency treatment for decompression sickness for divers, it has shown to be an effective tool in healing for a wide variety of physical injuries and disease conditions and its use causes faster healing results in conjunction with other medical therapies.
Medical conditions that have responded well to Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy include: sports injuries, post-surgical wound healing, stroke, coma, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, Lyme disease, peripheral neuropathy, multiple sclerosis, chronic fatigue syndrome, osteoradionecrosis, crush injuries, decubitus ulcers, delayed wound healing, migraine headaches, brain edema, near drowning, hearing loss, radiation myelitis, Crohn’s disease, closed head injury, and healing after cosmetic surgery. Many professional athletes rely upon Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to speed up healing of their sports-related injuries.
Why Advanced Rejuvenation Institute’s Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is Superior to Others
At the Advanced Rejuvenation Institute, our hyperbaric oxygen therapy is far more effective than the therapy from the “zip up” hyperbaric chambers used in most integrative medical and chiropractic offices. The ARI glass hyperbaric chamber delivers 100% oxygen at pressures up to 30 pounds per square inch (“psi”). Zip up and inflatable hyperbaric chambers used in most private health care facilities contain an air mixture that is low in oxygen (less than 20%). The zip-up chambers also have low air pressure compared to our glass hyperbaric chamber, having air pressure of only 5 psi or below. The 100% pure oxygen at the much higher psi that patients receive at the Advanced Rejuvenation Institute means much more oxygen at much higher pressure which means much more powerful healing and better results in fewer sessions. Hyperbaric sessions last approximately 90 minutes at our office.
Ours: 100% Oxygen at up to 30 psi v. Others: 20% Oxygen at 5 psi or less.
During Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy at the Advanced Rejuvenation Institute, the patient breathes pure, 100% oxygen under increased atmospheric pressure (2.4 Atmospheres Absolute or higher, depending upon the protocol determined by the doctor). The air we normally breathe contains only 19-21% oxygen. During HBOT at the Advanced Rejuvenation Institute, the concentration of oxygen dissolved in the bloodstream is raised many times above normal (up to 2000%). In fact, all body fluids, including the lymph and cerebrospinal fluids, are infused with the healing benefits of this molecular oxygen during HBOT. Our hyperbaric treatment can reach bone and tissues which are inaccessible to red blood cells, enhance white blood cell function, and promote the formation of new capillary and peripheral blood vessels.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy has been proven to provide numerous positive physiologic effects by providing hyperoxygenation of tissues. This pressurized hyperoxygenation allows oxygen to be delivered to tissues that may have been injured and therefore have decreased blood flow or low hemoglobin (oxygen carrying component of the red blood cell). The increased oxygenation enhances the body’s ability to heal.
Our higher pressure 100% oxygen HBOT can also promote formation of new small blood vessel (angiogenesis) in tissues with low capillary density. This can improve conditions in individuals with diabetic limbs, peripheral vascular disease, and injuries from cancer radiation therapy.
Hyperbaric oxygen also promotes vasoconstriction which has been shown to be beneficial in treating burns and trama injuries which have resulted in loss of blood flow.
The hyperbaric chamber at the Advanced Rejuvenation Institute is clear glass and is equipped with audio and video. You may watch your favorite movie or DVD while you relax in the chamber.
Although not totally without risk, hyperbaric oxygen therapy is considered to be safe and generally very well tolerated. To find out if Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy may be beneficial to you, call our office for a consultation.
